Why should I renew my PMI-ACP certification?
PMI requires professionals who hold PMI-ACP certification to show professional experience or event activity that will help them keep pace with changing project management trends.

That’s why PMI expects each PMI-ACP certification holder to submit 30 PMI-ACP PDUs every three years to retain their PMI-ACP certification. This is called a CCRS (Continuing Certification Requirements System) cycle.
Since PMI-ACP certification is a globally reputable certification in agile project management world, it is strongly recommended that you retain your PMI-ACP certification.
What are the PMI-ACP PDU requirements?
If you hold an Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) you must earn 30 PDUs in a 3-year cycle. These 30 PDUs can be further broken down as follows:
- 18 Minimum Education PDUs
- 12 Maximum Giving Back PDUs
Note that, you must earn at least 18 Education PDUs to renew your PMI-ACP certification. However, there is not a maximum limit. So, you can earn all 30 PDUs from education category. Following are the ways to earn Education PMI-ACP PDUs:
- Course or Training: Instructor-led formal education courses or classes held in-person or online, Face-to-face, instructor-led courses from PMI Seminars World®, e-Learning On Demand courses, academic education through programs accredited by the PMI Global Accreditation Center (GAC), training courses offered by a PMI Registered Education Provider (R.E.P.), courses from other third-party providers
- Organization Meetings: Meetings, activities and local events related to the profession. Often held at PMI chapters, these are also a great opportunity to network. (Typically limited to 1–2 PDUs). Educational sessions, keynote addresses at PMI events, search the PMI events calendar, check for chapter events near you
- Online or Digital Media: Self-paced learning conducted online or through varied forms of digital media.
- Reading: Self-directed reading relevant to the certification you hold can be claimed for PDUs.
- Informal Learning: You can earn PDUs by engaging in structured professional discussions with others, for example mentoring or “lunch and learn” sessions.
You must earn at least 8 PDUs from each component of the PMI talent triangle for the education PDUs. You can earn maximum 12 PDUs from Giving Back category and there is also a maximum 4 PDU limit for "work as practitioner" sub-category of Giving Back PDUs.
When should I start submitting PMI-ACP PDU to renew my PMI-ACP certification?
As soon as you earn your PMI-ACP certification, submit any events or activity in CCRS that earn PMI-ACP PDU hours. Many certification holders wait until too close to their PMI-ACP expiration date, and try to complete all their required PMI-ACP PDU hours in just a couple of months or even weeks!
PMI is rigorous for these PMI-ACP certification holders and your PDU submissions may not be accepted – so we advise against leaving it until your final month before renewal.
How can I submit my earned PMI-ACP PDUs?
Once you complete a course, you can submit your earned PMI-ACP PDUs in the online CCRS system of PMI. Check out our PMI PDU Submission post to see how it works.
What should I do after I complete 30 PMI-ACP PDU Hours?
After you complete 30 PDUs in your CCRS cycle, you must apply for PMI-ACP renewal in your PMI profile page. Just fill out the application form to abide to the PMI code of ethics during PMI-ACP renewal process.
You’ll then be directed to a secure payment page to pay your PMI-ACP renewal fee to PMI.
How much does PMI-ACP certification renewal cost?
PMI members pay $60 USD, while non-members pay $150 USD to renew their PMI-ACP certification after completing their required 60 PMI-ACP PDUs.
You can pay this fee online directly to the PMI using a card to complete your renewal process.
Can I fulfill my PMI-ACP PDU hour needs for free?
There are free PDU courses or free events (e.g. webinars, conferences etc.) that you can attend and gain PMI-ACP PDUs. However, completing all 30 PMI-ACP PDUs for FREE will be tough especially if you are a working professional. Therefore, the best way to complete PMI-ACP PDUs is enrolling in online courses and gaining PDUs easily.
